Karen Brown creates large scale mixed media sculptures. She received a MN Artist Initiative Grant in 2018. Her work has been exhibited in many group shows and was featured in a solo exhibition at The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery at St Catherine’s University in 2016. She’s been on the Minneapolis Community Education faculty for over 20 years and serves on the board of Minnesota Women Ceramic Artists. She was a studio artist at Northern Clay Center and studied at Pratt Institute, NY. in the 1980’s, during which time she was an organizing member of Carnival Knowledge, a political arts organization fighting for women’s reproductive rights. Karen’s studio is at Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis. Karen’s sculptures intertwine self-reflection and self-expression through the eyes of adolescent girls captured somewhere between reality and the dream world, between childhood and adulthood, between animal and human exploring their emerging voice.
